Tredegar Town band have just returned from a very successful weekend in Shrewsbury and Telford. The Band spent both Saturday and Sunday working with the Shropshire Youth Brass Band and the Showband of the Abraham Darby Academy in Telford. Both days included workshops with tutors from the band taking sectionals in preparation for massed band pieces. The concert on Saturday saw the Band return to Shrewsbury Abbey to perform with the Shropshire Youth Brass Band. Each band played their own set before joining together to perform Paul Lovatt-Cooper's 'Dark Side of The Moon'. The concert then culminated in a performance of a brand new work by Tredegar's Composer-in-residence, Matthew Hall called 'Cascade'. The work featured the massed bands of Tredegar and the Shropshire Youth Brass Band and the 3 junior bands of the County Music Service. Sunday saw the Band travel to nearby Telford to work with pupils at the Abraham Darby Academy. The morning was spent in sectionals with the Tredegar tutors before a massed rehearsal. The evening’s concert saw performances from many of the Academy’s ensembles including the brass band, Megaband and Showband. Tredegar also performed a set before joining with the pupils in a performance of Phillip Sparke's 'Dundonnell' from 'Hymn of the Highlands'.The weekend was a great success with experience gained by pupils and Tredegar members alike. The band would like to thank the organisers from both events and a special thank you to Matthew Hall for his involvement in setting up the concerts and workshops. The band hopes to return again to visit both The Shropshire Youth Brass Band and the Abraham Darby Academy to encourage excellent playing amongst the young players of today and forge strong links with both organisations.
